MT. AIRY - [watch] 2009 was a roller coaster of a year for the Habersham Central Raiders. The team started the season with a heartbreaking overtime loss to Cedar Shoals only to come back the next week and beat Heritage by 1 point. In fact half of their games last season were decided by a touchdown or less.
2009 was also the first season under head coach Stuart Cunningham. It was the former defensive coordinator's first season as the head coach.
But while the stability of heading into a second season will help Cunningham and his team, the Raiders will also have to fill in some big holes on offense.
At the end of last year Raider fans had to be excited at the prospect of two year starting quarterback Austin Brown coming back for his senior season in 2010.
But in the offseaon Brown tranferred down to Flowery Branch to play in their high octane offense.
The Raiders will also have to fill the shoes of playmaker Dee Ellison who graduated.
But the good news on that front is that his younger brother Kevin has proven that he can provide a spark on both sides of the ball.
