Scouting Report: Elbert Co. Blue Devils

Hits smaller text tool iconmedium text tool iconlarger text tool icon

ELBERTON - [watch] 2009 was the best year for the Elbert County Blue Devils in a while.  The team started the season winning their first three and 7 of their first 8.  That gave them their first playoff berth since 2003.

Just when things seemed to start rolling for Elbert County, the team made a coaching change this offseason.

Now the Blue Devils are hoping that new coach Sid Fritts can build on last year's success.

Fritts comes to Elberton from Rome and Vidalia where he went a combined  99-23-2 and took a team to the state semfinals in 2003.

Fritts takes over a team that will return a number of key offensive skilled players and was young in 2009.

Experience will help the Blue Devils as they are moving down to Class AA and into a subregion with 4 other teams that made the playoffs a year ago.

The likes of Hart County, Jefferson, North Oconee and East Jackson will all be fighting for a maximum of three playoffs spots.
